If you’re arriving from another country, your journey to Glacier National Park will likely begin with a flight. Depending on your trip itinerary you may want to book your flight to Great Falls or Kalispell airports in Montana. Other options for Canadian visitors or those who don’t want to take connecting flights are the airports in Vancouver, Calgary and Lethbridge. Choosing the best airport to fly into will help you make the most of your time in the Rockies.

Glacier Park International Airport (FCA) – Montana, USA

Located just outside Glacier National Park in Kalispell Montana FCA is the closest airport to Glacier National Park. Served by four American domestic carriers it’s a good way for American visitors to connect to Glacier National Park and the Rockies.

The drawback of Glacier Park International is that flights there only originate in seven American cities so most visitors would require a connecting flight.

Great Falls International Airport  (GTF) – Montana, USA

Located east of Glacier National Park, GTF is served by the same four US domestic carriers as Glacier Park International. It provides direct service to one different destination, Phoenix Arizona. It’s a 250 km drive through Northern Montana to the park entrance. So while it’s a great option for people from Phoenix wanting to fly direct, everyone else should consider Glacier Park International because the drive to reach Glacier National Park is so much shorter.

Calgary International Airport (YCC) – Alberta, Canada

Located in southern Alberta, Calgary is a great place to start your trip if you also plan to visit Kananaskis, Canmore, or Waterton Lakes National Park. Additionally, The Calgary Airport is a short 128 kilometers from Banff.  To get to Glacier National Park you simply follow highway two south through Alberta’s majestic prairies and into the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

Additionally, YCC is a nice airport to spend time in. It often ranks on lists of top global airports alongside much larger hubs. Calgary International is overflowing with modern sculptures and art instillations alongside the usual bevy of shops and restaurants. Even the luggage carousels are unique featuring 3D depictions of attractions around Alberta. You’ll get more than a few ideas about what do during your trip to the Rockies while waiting for your luggage.

Lethbridge County Airport (YQL) – Alberta, Canada

The Lethbridge Airport is the Canadian airport closest to Glacier National Park. Unfortunately, if you are coming for overseas you will have to book a connecting flight because it is only served by two domestic airlines Integra Air and Air Canada. However, flying into Lethbridge means you’ll have a short 203 km drive through the Canadian prairies to Glacier National Park.

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) – BC, Canada

By flying into Vancouver you’ll get the chance to check out Whistler and British Columbia’s Coastal Mountains. YVR is also served by more international airlines. With nonstop flights from places like Beijing, Auckland and Taipei, Vancouver International Airport is a great option if you’re arriving from the east. However, flying into Vancouver does mean you’ll have a longer trip to get to the Rocky Mountains. If taking the car or bus from Vancouver is going to eat up too much of your vacation, consider booking a connecting flight to Lethbridge County Airport.
